Private Schools Banned From Taking More Than One Month Fee in Advance
May 15, 2026The Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Authority has started a strict action against unregistered private schools in Islamabad. The authority warned that any illegal school can be sealed and face legal punishment.
Officials said that they will not ignore any issue that affects students’ education or health, and quick action will be taken against schools breaking the rules.
Under the new rules, private schools are not allowed to take more than one month’s fee in advance. It is also now illegal for schools to charge fees for more than a 12-month academic year.
Authorities said that schools breaking these rules may face strict penalties, including heavy fines, financial checks (audits), and even sealing of the school.
The authority has also introduced a “Lighter School Bags Policy” to protect students’ health. According to this policy, a student’s school bag should not weigh more than 10% of their body weight. Schools have also been told to reduce unnecessary books and lessen the academic load.
Officials explained that this step is taken to protect children from health problems like back pain caused by heavy bags.
A special complaint cell has also been set up where parents can report problems related to private schools.
The chairman of the authority said that any kind of misuse or exploitation of students and parents will not be allowed, and a zero-tolerance policy will be strictly followed against all violations.
