October 6, 2026Rawalpindi Moves Against 404 Teachers, 160 Headmasters Over Poor Class 9 Results
The District Education Authority (DEA) Rawalpindi has launched departmental proceedings against hundreds of teachers and school heads following disappointing Class 9 examination results, with termination from service listed as a possible final action.
Show-cause notices have been served on 404 teachers and headmasters of 160 government schools where the Class 9 pass percentage remained below 20%.
The move follows the latest results of the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Rawalpindi, which showed that nearly 63% of students failed the Class 9 annual examination.
According to the official result figures, 124,430 students had registered for the examination, while 121,739 candidates appeared. Only 45,724 students managed to pass, giving an overall pass percentage of 37.56%. Meanwhile, 76,015 students were declared unsuccessful.
DEA Rawalpindi Chief Executive Officer Yaseen Khan Baloch said the teachers and headmasters facing action would be given an opportunity to present their position during personal hearings.
He said the hearings would be completed before October 20, after which the authority would decide what departmental action should be taken. He also made it clear that termination from service could be the final outcome in serious cases.
The district administration has also instructed government schools to ensure that the Class 9 and 10 syllabus is completed without interruption. Classes will continue six days a week until the winter vacations.
Teachers have been directed to give special attention to senior classes and improve teaching standards so that students can achieve stronger results in the 2027 annual examinations.
The education authority is also preparing additional measures aimed at improving the skills of both teachers and students and strengthening the overall academic performance of government schools.
In a separate move, the authority has decided to recognize teachers who delivered strong results in the Grade 5 and Grade 8 annual examinations.
Around 100 high-performing government school teachers will receive appreciation letters and gifts. Students who performed well will also be given appreciation certificates as part of the initiative to encourage better academic performance.
